■ Introduction

Pale stained oak treads and spindles are paired with our striking sawtooth steel stringer. A clean, flat bar handrail complements the minimalist aesthetic, while a spacious landing enhances the flow. A bespoke wall-mounted handrail adds a refined finishing touch to this contemporary design.

■ The Challenge

While we had delivered seam-style spindle balustrades before, this project required a new approach. The client wanted the spindles to sit cleanly without obstructing the stringer, while maintaining a crisp, minimal appearance. The balustrade also extended across a 5 m landing, fixed to an exposed steel beam where no visible fixings were acceptable.

■ The Solution

The spindles were designed to sit directly on top of the treads, demanding millimetre accuracy while still allowing for efficient installation through a combination of carefully considered connections. Blackened steel cap head fixings were selected to complement the overall aesthetic where fixings were visible. For the landing, a concealed fixing strategy was developed to secure the balustrade to the steel beam without compromising its exposed finish. The result was a clean, precise installation that met both the client’s visual expectations and structural requirements.
