■ Introduction

Oak treads are supported by a steel frame with embedded toughened glass balustrades set into concealed steel channels to hide all fixings. A grey-stained oak handrail follows the stair’s flow across the quarter landing, delivering a clean, minimalist aesthetic ideal for the seaside setting.

■ The Challenge

The client wanted a parallel flange channel (PFC) stringer staircase with glass balustrade and no visible glass fixings. The heavy PFC stringers and the quarter landing where two stringers meet made achieving a seamless, precise connection particularly tricky.

■ The Solution

We used embedded glass and fabricated flanges at the top and bottom of the stringers to conceal all fixings. Our head draftsman created a clever connection detail so the stringers wrap around each other seamlessly, resulting in a clean, minimalist design with hidden connections.
