■ Introduction

One of the finest examples of our cantilever staircase to date. It's easy to see how such a beautiful interior requires a staircase of this stature and design. The limed stain to the Oak treads and handrails brings in warm natural tones without a strong contrast. Together with a combination of concealed glass fixings on a cantilevered staircase emphasises the prominent laminated timber treads, which seem to effortlessly float up the wall.

■ The Challenge

The brief was to create a crisp, white cantilevered staircase with no visible support, giving a strong sense of lightness. However, the existing wall construction did not meet the structural requirements for our usual fixing method, requiring an alternative approach to achieve the desired outcome.

■ The Solution

A concealed steel box-section stringer was engineered to support the treads independently, allowing the staircase to cantilever without reliance on the wall. The wall was carefully built out to house the structure, while glass detailing embedded at floor level discreetly transfers loads to the ground. The result is a refined, floating staircase without compromise.
