■ Introduction
Set within the Welsh countryside, this contemporary master suite features a mezzanine bathroom that overlooks the space below. A window partway down the staircase floods the room with natural light, drawing attention to the architecture and the gentle flow between levels, while keeping the space closely connected to its surroundings. This version of our Carbon staircase leads up to the luxurious bath at the top, forming a strong yet understated presence within the room. Steel balustrades and a matching handrail give it a crisp, modern edge, while the oak treads bring warmth and texture underfoot. Designed to sit naturally within the character of the space, the staircase works as both a practical route and a considered architectural feature that quietly lifts the entire room.

■ The Challenge
The project involved carefully designing around a plasterboard wall lip, an open en-suite, and a mid-level window, while keeping clean alignment with the outer build-out and maximising natural light to highlight the staircase, in particular the spindles.
■ The Solution
Custom steel packers created a precise wall connection, allowing design constraints to become subtle shadow lines and resulting in a light-filled, refined steel staircase that works seamlessly with the window and spindles.
