On Thursday 25th June, the Open University hosted their annual degree Design Show however this year with a bit of a difference. Given the current COVID Pandemic, the course tutors and staff felt that it wasn’t safe to invite their students and guests to a physical event. However, it wasn’t an opportunity to be missed… The staff and students all got together and decided that with a nation now used to working from home, online webinars and zoom quizzes they could still present their work that they have all worked so hard on. More than 60 people attended the OU design show online event.
One of our top designers Ben, was approached by some of the staff to deliver a guest speech and Q&A session for the students. The key focus for the talk was his design experience following his departure from university, how he started in the staircase industry and a typical day designing stairs for MSC. The talk also touched on how business has changed for MSC within the pandemic and how it has affected the design process. The Q&A session was incredibly engaging and the students had some great questions, great to see so much interest in what we do.
